  1. Climates fall into three main groupings based on latitude.

Tropical climates occur in low latitudes, and include desert regions in the Tropics as well as equatorial forests. They are dominated by equatorial air masses all round the year.

Temperate,mid-latitude climates occur between the Tropics and the Arctic and Antarctic circles.Sub-tropical and sub-polar air masses alternate.

Polar climates occur in high latitudes between Arctic and Antarctic circles and the poles. They are dominated by sub-polar and polar air masses.

In addition to the above three climates,  mountain  and coastal areas have climates that differ from adjacent regions.

All the ancient civilizations flourished on the banks of the important rivers only.Rainfall in the catchment areas or permanent snow covering over the mountains from which the river starts are required to feed the rivers. This requires suitable weather condition over those places. Thus weather is related to civilizations and history also started from these civilisazions only.Weather changed the history of the world when Hitler's army perished due to extreme weather conditions in Russia during the second world war.
