Are the qualifications needed the same or to they differ?

I understand you generally need a degree and a PGCE or simular, is this the case, and does a MASTERS degree without a BA degree qualify?

  1. Stangeley enough it doesn't matter.  If you complete a BEd degree or BSC/BA then PGCE you are qualified as a teacher and can teach either age range.

However, normal convention dictates that most Primary school teachers follow a BEd as this is more condusive to primary whilst secondary school teachers complete a BSc/BA then PGCE.

With regards to a Masters, I was on my PGCE who did a conversion Masters to his required subject choice (ICT) then did the ICT PGCE.  His original degree was in History however, his masters allowed him to teach ICT.

  2. In the district my son goes to here is how it goes.

BA get's you a teaching job

Masters gets you a raise of a lot of money

Other than that I haven't a clue, I am not in government work.

  3. Primary School teaching usually requires less training than a High School teacher. Secondary school teachers usually only train in one subject because that is the subject they will teach.

Primary School teachers require good english and maths skills and so do secondary school teachers. I wouldn't know about MASTERS degree without a BA degree though.
