  1. Just a few among many...

Abiogenesis - States that simple inorganic compounds formed replicating DNA, metabolism, and cell walls spontaneously. This is the prevailing scientific theory, and although there is much theorizing, and many schools of thought on the subject, so far there is little evidence to back it.

Extraterrestrial Genesis - Suggests that simple (i.e. bacterial) life was delivered to a barren earth, seeding life here. This theory doesn't actually solve the problem of how things got kicked off.

Creationism - The idea that all life was created by a deity. This theory presupposes the existence of a deity, and does not actually suggest any methods by which life was created.

PAH World - A theory that the organic compounds needed to create life (in a manner not dissimilar from abiogenesis) are generated by star birth and nebula forming. Although new, this theory is astonishingly beautiful and is gaining some limited acceptance.

    Hope that helps!

  2. Big Bang theory is the only one im familiar with

  3. Use this link to wikipedia.  A very good article.  For more information I would suggest a book entitled "the blind watchmaker".  Its meant for the general reader but it can get a little deep.  Still it is a very good introduction to the subject.
