  1. computer use - to use for your lesson plans, unit plans, tests, etc. OR for students use (research; textbooks online, emails to parents, etc.)

using PowerPoint presentations (you or letting the kids create their own)

Using any technology for your class (CD's, DVD's, etc.)

videotaping a class or having them make a video (editing, etc.)

    audio-taped books

  2. Plagiarism is also very easy nowadays.  So is checking on it.  If a student writes a sentence or uses a phrase that contains a word they probably don't know, or it seems too sophisticated, just type it into google, and voila!, up pops the website it was taken from.

  3. Well there is technology for you and technology for the student Here's what I find to be invaluable...

    For the teacher:

    Access to the internet

Lumens or some sort of opaque projector (some have Smartboards)

    Laptop

I have been using those 3 things for the last 3 years and would not want to go back,,,,,

Using these things I can bring immediate visuals and lesson support to my students who are 80% ELL (English Language Learners)

Never been to the beach..presto I can show them video, photos, National Geographic about ocean animals..immediately

Never heard a lion roar? Immediate video of a lion in action

    For the student:

Access to computers daily- computer lab, or classroom

Signed consent from student and parents -(mine are in Spanish too) outlining rules and consequences for misuse.

Email...we use Gaggle. Its a closed system and I get to see every email they send and receive....I also send them lessons daily. Missed school Monday...Look at your email, no excuses.

Those are the basics for me. Of course you want to make sure you are proficient with computers so everything flows smoothly.

  4. Let's get really simple here.

    1. Doing the work. That seems rather simple, but, it is the following that tells you if they are.

    2. Extra windows. If they have more windows than what you know should be open, you need to check it.

    3. Monitor station. YOu don't need to tell them, but,  your station should be able to monitor ALL stations.

You'll know real quick whose trying to "subvert" the system. Make the rules plan and understood. A contract would be the wisest thing that the student AND the parent has to sign when it comes to technology.

ONe thing I think most teachers will over look is cheating. Cell phones and PDA's should be BAN from the classroom. If it comes out, its gone. Period. End of Statement. No second chances.
