Hello,

I'm thinking about taking some media courses at college when i leave school as i would love to work in media as my future career. There's only one problem, im really stuck on which area i want to go into and which would be best suited for me.

So if anyone knows about the different areas there are or works in the industry then i would like to hear about it and maybe give a few tips on how to get into it.

Thank you.

  2. Dont waste your time unless U want to be part of the propaganda machine. The media is not what it presents to be. It is a weapon of class warfare. Media peeps are not permitted to exercise responsible journalism. Everything must be doctored for the elite corporate masters. If U R an honest person then a media career might not be good for U. Watch this film about the merger of media and govt and decide for yourself.

  3. I also want to go in a media course when I go to college. If you like doing all types of media than you should major in multimedia. If you want something where you are working the camera you should go in Film/Televison Production. There are a lot college that offer major in the media area such as Pratt, the Art Institutes, SCAD, etc.

  4. First of all, sales people generally make more money than the artists.

I attended the Art Institute of Las Vegas and pursued graphic design. How well I succeed depends entirely on my actions. Whether I work for a boss at a reduced income in lieu of health insurance, (perceived) job security, etc. or become a self-employed entrepreneur without an income cap, is entirely up to me.

The Art Institute nationwide is "headquartered in Pittsburgh, and is a division of Education Management Corporation (EDMC). Educational accreditation of The Art Institutes and their programs varies among campuses and programs; the accreditation status and career orientation of the institutions and their programs may cause some students to experience difficulty in transferring Ai credits or with enrolling in graduate-level college/university programs."

If you choose to take online courses, you are required to purchase the software, which even with students discounts, at student incomes can be very difficult to produce. Your computer should run at optimum standards - no compromises, especially with deadlines.

    FREELANCING?

Freelancing is easier for women because they are generally more approachable by both sexes. Everyone is judged based on their portfolio and more importantly, their latest performance. "What have you done for me lately" is all your clients think about and you have to answer it before they can ask it for your to succeed.

Anything you can do out in the world - you can teach yourself. The money you invest in tuition would be better invested in the software you'll be required to buy anyway, but at your own pace - you can follow the Help section Tutorials  or purchase tutorial videos (DVDs) to learn at your own pace.

Your greatest value is in hands-on experience. College degrees are the kinds of things you worry about mostly if you plan on working for companies that promote staff to management through a hierarchy. If you operate your own company - you're the only one who really cares, but it's strongly recommended even after pursuing a secondary education to understand that learning (as life) as constant (until it suddenly ends). Your life is too short for your to pursue something you're not truly passionate about - so make sure you are pursuing what genuinely makes you happy. If you want to learn organic farming; find a beautiful ranch in the Northwest operated by someone looking for someone to teach. You will meet a lot of new and interesting people when you give yourself the freedom to be yourself.

"Make sure you work to live, not live to work."

  5. Photography, advertising, film making graphic designing.

  6. there is countless off jobs in the media from photography to film producing to advitising pr

i studied media at college a few years ago and i did what was called a BTEC national diploma in media studies, that covers everthing from film

producing, advertising all the basics of the media.  Its a 2 year course then you can have experience of all angles then really concentrate on a certain subject when you go to uni.

as for work experience why dont you ask your local theatre if they have anything to help them with props staging ect or a dance school

  7. Well, there are obviously many different types:

Film (Effects - Digital, Sound, Editing, Producing, Directing, Camera Work, Animation)

    Journalism (Print - Newspaper/Magazines, TV - CNN/Fox/MSNBC, Radio)

    Television (Same as Film)

    Screenwriting

Finding which one is best suited for you could be based on your personality, your talents, etc.

I am a media communications major, and that focuses on all areas of communication. After awhile, as an upperclassman, you should be able to start taking courses in whatever emphasis you'd like to go into. Like, I would be a media communications major with an emphasis in film studies. So try taking a couple of classes in every type of communications/media outlet, and see which one you like the most. :)
