  1. There are a huge variety of counselors.  Marriage and Family, Substance Abuse, Art Therapy, Pastoral, s*x Therapy, School, Career, Community, Rehabilitation, Music Therapy, Industrial/Organizational, Crises, Neuropsychology, etc.

Those are just a few of the ones that require a certification at the masters level or greater.  Getting into specialty fields will reveal more counseling options that are specific to the field or even the agency for which you work.

As for pay range- it tends to start around 30K and can go up to 100K for a doctorate in neuropsychology.  However, these jobs tend to be in the non-profit sector and - depending on the type of counseling and the area you live in- will be between 35,000 to 50,000 for experienced counselors.  Private practice can earn you more money but requires experience and usually only for those who have earned a doctorate degree.

Organizational/Industrial Counseling is one of the fastest growing fields right now though as far as need and pay growth.
