  1. Driver, Fairway Woods, Hybrids, Irons, Wedges, Putters

Putters- putt the ball on green

Wedges- hit the ball high and short and are used around the green and from 90 yards or less

Irons- depending on which irons (they are numbered from 2-9)  they will travel different distances. Higher number irons go a shorter distance and go higher in the air. 2 iron can go around 225 yards and 9 irons can go around 130. With a 10-15 yard difference between each iron

Fairway woods. Are used on long shots. There are 3,5,7,9 woods. Again the higher number doesnt go as far. 3 wood around 230yards

Hybrids- combine irons and fairway woods. They look like a FW wood but are easier to hit like an iron and don't roll as much as a fairway wood would roll. They "replace" the low irons. So a 3hybrid would replace the 3 iron, 4 hybrid would replace a 4 iron, etc

Driver- hits the ball the furthest. Used to tee off with on long holes. Rarely used on any other shots than to tee off with. Can go around 250 yards

Any club can be used to tee off with depending on how far the golfer wants to hit the ball.

Since a 5 wood, 2 hybrid, and 2 iron can all go about the same distance it depends on the golfers preference, how the ball is sitting in the grass, the wind, whether he wants the ball to land and roll or land and stop, etc.

    Hope this helps

  2. Golf clubs have two major features that directly influence how far and how high the ball will go when hit correctly with each club. What you are looking at in the illustration is a full set of golf clubs, including the woods and the irons. Beginning on the left are the wood clubs (larger heads) numbered from 1 wood, 3 wood, 5 wood and 7 wood. Progressing the irons (smaller heads), starting from the left, are the 3 iron, 4 iron, 5 iron, 6 iron, 7 iron, 8 iron, 9 iron, 10 iron, and 11 iron (also known as the sand wedge). Note that there is a difference in length of one-half inch between each club in the set.

  3. When you ask about the different types of golf clubs is like asking about different type of cars, there are too many to discuss. The basic information is that there are Drivers, in which you typically use off the "Tee" box(the normal starting spot on each hole). There are Irons usually 3 - 9 irons used for different distances from the green(where the flag/hole is)(the lower the # of iron, the FARTHER away from the green you are). Then there are wedges, which are from shorter distances and inside the sand bunkers (normally located around some greens).and finally the putter, and that should be self explanatory.

In the last few years, they have added 'hybrid' clubs which take the place of some of the lower irons, more specifically the #3, #4 & #5 irons. These are desinged for more weight and more forgiving on a non-centered shot on the club..

    There you go!!

I use a 9 iron about 130-140 yards out   --  and I use a 3 iron about 200 yrds out. (you get the idea)

    Peace!
