  2. There are many many different types of IV solutions, depending what the IV is needed for. Some of the main types are: Normal Saline, D5% & 1/2 Normal Saline, Lactated Ringers, and D5 (dextrose 5%). There's also IV nutrition, called either PPN or TPN depending on what kind of IV catheter it's going into (perpherial or central). And many medications can be administered IV
