  2. There are two main ways of passing: bumping and setting...

    Bumping is an underhand hit. Place feet shoulder width apart and bend your knees a little. Make a platform by holding your hands in front of you, and clasps hands together but do not lace fingers together. This should create a flat surface with the wrists.  When the ball comes to you below the head, perform a bump by doing that and then hit it up by using your legs, not swinging your arms. Lean a little forward when bumping so the ball goes forward.

    The other way to pass is a set, which is overhand. When the ball is above the head, place hands above the hand and form a triangle with your index fingers and thumbs of both hands. Spread the other fingers wide apart. When ball approaches you, place your left foot forward, and lean forward and using ur legs, hit the ball up.

  3. There are two main types of passes in volleyball but they all have variations:

    1) The bump: This is a common pass for the ball being lower than your midsection... how to do it:

    - stand with your lead foot (righties it's your left and lefties is the right) slightly ahead of you other foot. you want to be on the balls of your feet so you can move quickly.

    - Have your knees bent... he lower you are the better you can control it (I have my  legs at a 90 degree angle to the ground don't go farther than this)

    - put your arms out at a angle from your body (the angle all depends on where your target is... lower angle when you need a long pass.... higher angle if it's a close pass)... make sure yur arms are striaight so you get a good bounce off your arms.

    - turn your shoulders towards the ball.

    - when the ball comes and it is slow you don't want to swing you arms... swinging your arms causes the ball to go to the ceiling unless it is a really soft hit you may need to swing you arms a little.  On a harder hit you'll have to absorb the hit by dropping your arms when it hits them. so instead of swinging your arms you want to move upwards using your legs (They should be bent)

    - if your target (the setter) is off at a angle to you you'll have to angle you arms slightly towards them to get it to go there.

    2) the set: this is a good pass to use when the ball is hit hard at you and high or a nice soft hit towards you cuz it's easier to control wher you want it to go.

    - you set up just like a bump (knees bent...bend them slightly less than a bump, shoulders towards the ball, one foot slightly ahead of the other).

    - your hands are just in front of your foreheard that way you see the ball all the time.

    - you want to put your thumbs togetehr and you pointer finger together (it will form a ace between you thumb and pointer finger.

    - you don't want you hands to close togetehr or too far away just enough so you can cup the ball.

    - you want your elbows bent so when the ball hits your hand you can cradle it jsut for a half a second to slow it down and push it away from your forehead so it slows down.  Don't cradle it too much cuz you'll get called for a carry.

    when your waiting for the ball you should be in a "set" position which is your knees bent, arms in between the postion for a set or a bump, on the balls of your feet and one foot ahead of the other... this will allow you to do either pass and be able to move to the ball yet.  

    These are the basic passes there are variations to them which are more advanced but if you master these you'll be a very good passer.  It is a little confusing to explain
