yi zhi mao

yi zhi gou

yi ge non hai er

yi he ne hai er

I know that they have something to do with a dog, a cat, and a boy. I am using Rosetta Stone to learn Chinese -_-

  1. Yi zhi is one

    so mao is cat

    gou is dog

and I don't get non hai er or ne hai or are you trying to say boy and girl?

男孩 is nan hai i think thats what you mean

  2. yi-one

    zhi-unit of measure/counting for animals

    ge-unit of measure/counting for people

    mao-cat

    gou-dog

    nan-male

    ne/nu-female

    hai er-kid/child

  3. I think the last two lines should read as follows:

    yi ge nan hai er

yi ge nü hai er (or yi ge nv hai er; v is a common substitute for ü)

In Chinese, they're written as follows:

    一只猫

    一只狗

    一个男孩儿

    一个女孩儿

    They mean, respectively,

    one dog

    one cat

    one boy

    one girl

In these examples, you don't translate "zhi" and "ge", but they're measure words, similar to English "sheet" as in "one sheet of paper" or "piece" as in "a piece of advice".
