What are the disadvantages in Vegetarianism?

i also hear people talking about advantages about it but i never hear the oppsite so want to know what are the disadvantages

  1. Um.....*crickets*.

    Not being able to live in a society that upholds your values and choices instead of mocking them? Nothing "different" individuals haven't dealt with from the beginning of time.


  2. Disadvantages? You don't get to eat many foods that are bad for you. You have to live longer because your risk of cancer and heart disease go down. Oh, and you don't get to take part in the old butchering and slaughtering parties.

  6. I am not one, but I'd say trying to find something at social functions that aren't vegetarian or vegan friendly.

    hahah, i laughed at some of these answers. "you won't get protein" uh, since when has meat been the only source of protein on this earth?

  9. I'm a vegan, and honestly, there aren't too many disadvantages. You won't develop a protein deficiency; if you have enough calories, you'll get enough protein. It's just a myth, as are most other nutrient "issues."

    Reading labels to see if something contains animal products just becomes a part of life. It's not really an issue.

    Honestly, for me, it's people being downright rude to me. I very rarely start a conversation about veganism, but people still take it as a personal insult. I do find meat pretty gross, honestly, but I keep it to myself. People still go, "OM NOM NOM! Meat is soooo tasty!" in my face all the time, or tell me I'm going to die of a deficiency (all nutrients, including B12, can come from non-animal sources).

    So, please, please, please never do that to someone. I know people are just meaning to be funny, but it's obnoxious, immature, and rude. :(

    Another thing is when people try to slip animal products into your food, or lie to you about what's in them. It has only happened a few times, but I usually know because I get outrageous stomach aches afterward, even when I don't know it.

  11. You don't get enough meat proteins. Yes, they are in fact important, however in moderation, I love my meat but I try to not each that much its really not that good for you. Also its harder to find "edible" foods when you go out.

Really the only disadvantage is that some people take it on before really knowing how to do it in a healthful way which can lead to deficiencies and over abundances of nutrients.   Socially it can be difficult or awkward to turn down a meal or request veggie options, but once you learn how to deal with this it's not a problem.  Oh, and a lot of farmers, slaughterhouses, and butchers may not like you so much.

    veggies and fruits in general have more protein, iron and calcium than all meats.

    common  numbers are in proteins:     1 to 3 grams  (a gram is 1000 mg)    per fruit and  vegetable.

    an avocado has 4 grams of protein.    seems that meat is a weakling in the protein catagory.

    let us see...     the meat effort is trying hard,  then again it is imposed by the government...    so is the dairy effort.

    i wonder why now they want us to dumb ourselves down with artery hardening  meats and dairy that will only leave us tired, weak and anemic?

    hum,   i guess because weak can be overpowered by retarded politicians.

    i love all the meat eaters who still try to proclaim but can't do a thing about it....    make veggies and fruits look bad for you.

    so,   fruits and veggies don't have protein, nutrients, vitamins,  minerals...   interesting...    funny how i've been a vegetarian for 30 years and not had one single issue.

    must be a miracle since i'm starving myself apparently said the  meat eater.     my body is lacking all these important vitamins and minerals that meat is suppose to have....  but so far doesn't.

    learn,  get some actual research together and stop listening to degenerates who just want to talk and not have any information to back them up.

    must be the lack of minerals and vitamins in their meat packed diet.

  16. Always asking is things have meat. Or having to think ahead. What can I eat here or there, do I have to bring something to eat, all that.

    But I don't really mind it. It's just routine (and I never eat greasy **** at fast food that way).

  17. you dont get enough protein as non-vegans...i mean yeah u can eat like kidney beans n stuff n tofu...but i think those foods arent so good tastin..i much rather eat chicken n get my protein that way
