What are the disadvantages of a plasma TV

When I was comparing the different TV's I noted the following disadvantages of the Plasma vs. LCD's:

1 - They burn out more quickly

2 - They tend to be more prone to "screen burn" and you can see "ghost" images when the screens change - especially in video games (I'm an avid gamer so this was a big deal to me)

3 - While the contrast from whites and blacks are more sharp, the colors look more washed out - the blacks on the LCD's are sufficient for me so I was more interested in the vibrance of the colors

4 - HD 1080 Plasmas with good contrast ratings are expensive... almost 2x the cost of a comparable LCD and will continue to be so. You can find cheap HD 720's plasmas for <$1000, so just food for thought. You dollar will go further on an LCD when compared to a similar plasma.

Upkeep.  They aren't very durable.

comparing it to a LCD:

1) a plasma is front lit, which means any external light eg. from a window or a light bulb would affect your viewing.

an LCD is back lit

2) plasmas are bad for viewing motion, they jump, you wouldn't notice but it's there

3) you can't get 1080p on a plasma. or full hd

4) Oh and the dangerous thing, they contain compres xenon and argon and other gasses so if you drop it, bang!

however they do have a longer lifetime than LCD's but you ask for the disadvantages.

1. upto 30 percent more power consumption than lcds

2. burn in (not so apparent in the new tvs)

3. not as bright but better as it is more natural

4. heavier in weight

buy the new panasonics they are the best plasmas out there
