  1. Really depends on your usage. If doing electrical work they are fine except for the weight and if wet the can conduct electricity. Used for painting they are also fine. I prefer fiberglass as they are more stable and can be used for anything. Only draw back with fiberglass is they have no paint tray.


  2. wood is harder to keep up.  it can split and crack as the wood dries over time.  that said if the ladder is kept indoors and out of rain or direct sunlight it will last for years.

  3. Wood is heavier than aluminum.

    Step ladders are unstable, especially as you climb higher. Extension ladders are better because your body weight holds you against the wall.

  4. Over what?  Fiberglass or metal.  Aluminium is cheap and does not withstand uneven ground well.  Any kind of metal conducts electricity which is not good.  Wood will rot if left in the weather more so than any other.  Fiberglass is the best in most cases just make sure the wieght rating is ok for your use.
