  1. That depends on the culture and the particular family.  For example, my family is Chinese and my father is the oldest, surviving brother.  He became the head of the family when his father died.  As the oldest brother, he became financially responsible for his three younger brothers.  It wasn't easy, especially since some of the brothers were ingrates.

Sometimes, an older brother is treated more harshly by the parents.  He is expected to set an example for the younger siblings.  The parents obviously had him when they were younger and less experienced, and often are harsher in discipline and etc.

An older brother is sometimes expected to "take care" of the younger siblings.  Sometimes he gets stuck babysitting because the parents are busy or just don't want to look after the younger kids.  Sometimes a younger sibling initiates a fight (verbal or physical) and the older brother isn't allowed to fight back.

Of course, being an older brother has advantages, too; but that is not your question.

  2. You have to always do what is right and set an example. plus your sibling relly on you on to help you with the steps that life throws at you.
