I think it is much easier to go to school online then out on campus. Numberone you do not have to worry about parking and finals, you work at our own pace. But remember you have a deadline to turn our work in.

  1. There are finals for online courses.  The disadvantage on online courses is isolation and unable to meet new people at school.  Your right, online courses are independent courses.

  2. I go to school online. I think its the way of the future and soon no one will think less of it, I'm embracing a new form of education.

The upside is its cheaper, way more flexible(I work 40 weeks at two different jobs), one on one no distractions, usually faster too, depending on how much work you're putting into it.

    Two possible problems:

    1) you are not personally motivated enough (but I was never an A student and now I'm Acing.)

    2) The degree you are looking for is not good to get online because it requires a lot of hands-on training such as mechanics, vets, nurses, x-ray technicians, trainers, carpenters, electricians, ect...

Ask yourself these questions and then do these things:

    1) Is this the easiest way to get to where I need to be?

    2) Will I miss the party atmosphere of the college life?

    3) Is my degree compatible with an online format? (ie. hands on or book work?)

    4) Am I short on money and need a college I can afford?

If yes to all of those, then go for it! Research research and research some more. never be Schmoozled into some scam that's just trying to make a profit. Are they legit?

Ask people who are already in the profession you are thinking of and see what they say about your idea to do online and tell them about your hopeful school and they're learning regiment. If the online course has an internship promised, would that make you more hirable later?

tell everyone you know so that they know to push you and support you. When I told my folks what I was doing I got a free laptop out of it!

PS you do have to worry about finals. I just took one yesterday!

  3. I went to school partially online and partially on-campus in traditional classrooms so I think I have seen the best and worst of each.

To go online it certainly requires you to be self-disciplined and motivated to do your work on your own.  You will also have less contact with your teacher and if you are not good at picking up on things (depending on the subject material) on your own you may have some issues there.

Certain classes for me were great online... like History or Humanities.  However, I took one course in Programming and immediately realized it would be far more helpful to be in a class each week where I could corner the teacher on things.

Being at home for all your work also means you will have to screen out distractions like friend, family at times.  You may also miss out on networking and meeting classmates with similar goals and questions if your online classroom does not foster a lot of discussion online.

Just some things to think about.

  4. Personally, I need to physically go the classroom.  It keeps me on track.

I always tend to put off work for online classes - there's always something else I think needs to be done.
