  1. The energy consumption in migrating is enormous.  Think of how much you car uses in 1000-2000 miles.  So the food advantage must be  compelling.  There is also the danger in travel over long distances.  Some predators know about migrations and find a good spot to pick off the weak travelers.


  2. DUDE!!! Some migrations are freaking long! I think thats a major disadvantage! Its a LOT of work and takes a ton of energy to go these great distances, so the animals tend to lose a lot of weight during the migration, even if they are eating every day, which doesn't always happen. Plus, when moving from one place to another, they are usually more visible and can be more easily picked off by predators.

  4. Basically death...millions of bird die during migration..they become exhausted, dehydrated, starve to death, or are eaten by predators.
