  1. The only one i can think of is viruses.

Viruses are at the boundary between what is considered "alive" and what is not.

They don't have cells (and they also cannot reproduce by themselves, do not metabolise, don't move, don't regulate their internal environment, etc.)

In fact, the only parts of the definition of "life" they *do* display are adaptation (they evolve) and response to stimuli (they infect cells when they contact them). Obviously, they *do* reproduce - but only when they have infected a compatible host cell.

  2. There are none so far.  The theory that cells make up living matter seems to be quite intact, and more information is being added each day.  The rate at which information grows about cellular anatomy, biochemistry and physiology is increasing exponentially.

That is, there is no serious alternative to the fundamental place the cell has in biology.
