What are the drinking laws in Texas? Because I have heard many rumors.......?

I was at a bar in San Antonio, Texas and as I was walking in the doorman asked where my husband was (assuming he saw my rings) and I told him that he was parking the car. Well he told me that I wasn't allowed to drink without my husband in the state of Texas. I am 20 and of course I knew you had to be 21 to drink legally. But i asked him if he was serious and he said that you had to have your husband with you if you drink out in public. Now why does that sound a little weird?
