  1. You won't see signs that say west. It's best just to focus on cities. The Autobahn numbers give you a little hint as to direction but, it's a little complicated. Odd numbers run North- South, Even run West-East. ex A60 travels from east to west. A9 will take me north to south and vice versa.

You have two options: Jump on A3 to A63 right away or take 60 to A61 and than to A63, a little bit of a detour( these directions are last)

Take A3 rictung (direction Mainz/Weisbaden) You'll pass the IKEA on your right hand side. If you don't pass it you're going the wrong way.

From A3 you'll see A67 Russelsheim. Continue till you merge onto A60 (runs north south) Bingen/Mainz

Once you hit the south side of Mains, you'll See first Ludwigshafen and Alzey. this is A63. You will not see Kaiserslautern on this sign till you cross  A61 (koblenz) at Kreuz Kaiserlautern..

You'll eventually come to dreieck Kaiserslautern. You want to head for A6 Saarbruecken ( NOT MANNHEIM AS BOZO STATED) Mannheim is going east. You most likely want to get to the otherside od Lautern.

To get to the miltary base, Landstuhl, Rammstein or any of the base communities just continue through Kaiserslautern on A6 (to get around the big city) OR take 40 through the Zentrum. This will get confusing if you're not familar with the area as you can't rely on streets. The street names change at least 4 times and sometimes you won't see signs to know what street your on.

    THE OTHER WAY:

If by some reason you are on A3 and you ends bingen  up seeing weisbaden signs (means you've gone too far north to catch 67), the signs will have Wi- Erbeneim or Wi-"something" You're in Weisbaden. Look out for Wi- Appelalle (643). Jump on A60 toward Bingen. You'll see 61 Towards Kolbelnz/ludwigshafen. It will branch out. go in the direction Ludwigshafen. After shortly being on 61. you'll see the Kaiserlautern Kreuz (A63). Take it towards Lautern and follow the directions.

If you end up on A 66 from A3. Take 643 Appelallee. and watch for Bingen.

Good luck. It's really not as complicated as it sounds if you know what cities are in the direction your heading. It's easy.
