A G.R.O. is a G.R.O in a hotel or in a hootchey bar.  It's a hooker.  What do you think the duties are now?  Its a fancy title for a hostess.  Wait, hostess sounds too nice too.  Its a prostitute.

In the Philippines the term GRO guest relations officer has been tilted towards prostitution or at least places where the male guest is expected to buy drinks for the ladies.

guest relations officer in a hotel is a respected job. within reputable hotels the job description varies.  for example a few years back i did  a lot of business traveling around Asia and stayed at the Shangir-La   chain of hotels frequently. When i checked in i was meet by the Guest relation Officer ( mostly females) and checked in at a special desk then escorted to my room. She also was the shift supervisor for the front desk.This is one of the more common cases.  Many of the Holiday inns around Asia including some in the Philippines give the title to the front desk staff.

In some hotels where there is concierge service, there is only one on duty and the asistants are called guest relation officers. hotels concierge assists guests with various tasks like making restaurant reservations, arranging for spa services, recommending nightclubs, procurement of tickets to special events and assisting with various travel arrangements and tours of interesting places to visit. In upscale establishments, a concierge is often expected to "achieve the impossible", dealing with any request a guest may have, no matter how strange, relying on an extensive list of personal contacts with various local merchants and service providers.
