  1. I'm an EHS professional that works as a consultant.

    Those folks that I know who work for the government do a wide variety of task -- looking at all aspects of the environment.

    One area that I'm very familiar with are the local community noise ordinances.  The city's environmental professional might help the health department enforce this requirement.

    The town's EHS pro could also be part of the planning and zoning boards and review plans that developers submit to see what type of environmental impact they would have if the development is allowed to be built.

    To find out specifically for your town, check with the person who is in that position or the town clerk's office or the Mayor's office -- they  can give you the details.
