What are the earliest signs of the chicken pox?

My nephew has them and was in the same house as my daughter this weekend before we knew he had the pox. She was napping the whole time, so she wasn't in direct contact with him. She's been really sleepy the last two days (especially today) but no fever, seems to be in a fine mood, extra sweet, but just super sleepy. I noticed two red spots on the back of her calf muscle, but they could be bug bites. I don't know what early chicken pox looks like.

Any comments on the earliest signs of chicken pox?

PS: she's also teething, so that could be an explanation of her sleepyness. She's 15 months old.

  1. The telltale signs of smallpox are severe illness with a high fever, then a body rash. Symptoms appear about 12 days after the person is infected.
