  1. Did you know that, if you are having problems with a hymn because of the key signature, you can go to lds.org and, if there's no copyright restrictions, the web site will transpose the song into an easier key!

For instance, you go to http://www.lds.org/cm/display/0,17631,46... and choose a hymn. Another window will pop up, with the hymn. If you look at the left side of that window, you will find the key signature that the song is in. If you click on the arrow, you can change that to ANY other key signature (C, G, and F are the easiest, IMHO).

That should make most songs easier to play.

    Hope that helps.

  2. So..........I don't play the piano very well, and my dad is an LDS, so i could give you the best list because i know what is really hard, and what isn't. These won't be in particular order, because is all has to do with your opinion about what you think is hard, and what isn't.

    1. Sweet is the Peace the Gospel Brings (pg.14)

    2. Great is the Lord (pg. 77)

    3. Onward Christian Soldiers (pg. 246)

    4. God Speed the Right (pg.106)

    5. Rock of Ages (pg.111)

    6. More Holiness Give Me (pg.131

    7. Did You Think to Pray? (pg.140)

    8. Upon the Cross of Calvary (pg.184)

    9. Thy Will, O Lord, Be Done (pg.188)

    10. Praise God From Whom All Blessings Flow (pg.242)

There, now i have given you ten songs that i have selected because of either they are short and sweet, or they have easier musical qualities.I have also included the page numbers for each song so that it is easy for you to find. Hope you have fun playing the piano!

  3. Good for you!  I love it when people want to play perfect, it bugs me when people mess up because you can tell they didn't practice.  These are the one's I learned first.

302- I know My Father LIves.  Super easy

    301- I am a Child of God

    303- Keep the Commandments.

304- Teach Me to Walk in the LIght. Super easy.

306-God's Daily Care.  Not well known but easy.

308- Love One Another.  Nice for everything.

    274- The Iron Rod

273- Truth Reflects Upon Our Senses

264- Hark All Ye Nations. really it is, just get past the key

246-  Onward Christian Soldiers First one I learned.

241- Count Your Blessing.  Look at the tempo marking.

233- Nay, Speak no Ill. Just watch the left hand in the 4th line.

209-  Hark the herald Angels Sing. You need at least one Christmas song that you know.

    193- I stand all amazed

194- There is a green hill far away

158-Before thee Lord I bow my head.  Just count.

144- Secret Prayer.  Works for just about any service, including primary.

86-How Great thou Art.  2 flats really isn't hard.  the hardest part is the right hand at the top of the second page.

    81-Press Forward Saints

    30- Come Come Ye Saints

2-The Spirit of God.  It looks hard but really isn't once you buckle down and work a little bit, besides, its really popular at meeting.

Good luck in playing and remember to try and feel the Spirit as you play, it helps make it easier to learn.  Once you learn these, just start at the 1st hymn and play two a day until you've learned them all.  It doesn't take very long and some that don't get sung often are wonderful.

  4. There are simplified versions of the hymns that you can learn, this way you can play them all with out worry of mistakes.. There is a super simplified and one that's intermediate.

  5. I'm not a pianist, but I know many guitarists that shun songs having three or more flats or sharps--such as what many of our hymns have.

If the sharps and flats bother you, consider finding those hymns written in the key of C, G, or D.

Here again, you wouldn't want to play one hymn after the next in the same key.

Among my favorites, I enjoy, "Come, Come, Ye Saints" the best.
