  1. Sadly, for private agencies: a bachelor's degree.

    That's it, for most positions.

And it can be in any field.

I had a case manager position for a private fost-adopt agency with a bachelor's in English literature and no experience.

One more thing that needs to be reformed in adoption...

  2. To be a Social Worker anywhere, you have to have either a Bachelors degree in Social Work (4 years = BSW) or a Masters degree in Social Work (2 - 4 more years = MSW).  Then on top of that, you have to be licensed by the state after passing an exam, as a Licensed Social Worker, Licensed Master of Social Work, or a Clinical Social Worker.  Different states have different requirements for each.  In addition, in order to perform child placing decisions, the Social Worker has to be designated as a Level I, which requires several years work in adoptions or foster care.  Then, if the Social Worker is also Director of the agency, then he/she has to be licensed as a Child Placing Agency Administrator, also by passing a state exam.

  3. I don't know about educational requirememts.  But I hope you have honor, and a strong moral code within you.

Adoption should be a last resort.

    Family preservation is the way.

  4. A  BSW   degree and I would suggest a MASTERS in Social work or Psychology would be the best tools to be an outstanding social worker...figure 4 years of Undergraduate study, then one - two years for the Masters (if you go full time).   It's a lot of schooling, but ANY CAREER that pays well takes a lot of schooling...  Doctors do not just fall out of the sky and neither do GOOD social workers....
