  1. A meteor that gets through the Earth's atmosphere is called a meteorite. These can be extremely dangerous. In the billions-old history of Earth, there have been some significant and catastrophic meteorites. The meteor that becomes a meteorite is a fireball, on its way to level whatever it hits. Not all meteors get through the Earth's atmosphere, and are broken up.

  2. Most of the meteors are small and generally get completely burnt in the earth's atmosphere due to friction. The larger one may survive and manage to reach the earth's surface and they are called meteorites. The biggest meteorites form craters on the surface of the earth. The formation of craters on the surface of the moon,Mercury and Mars is due to the fact that they have been bombarded by large number of meteorites.

  3. just tiny space rocks astroids are the destructive ones.

  4. well, it all depends on the size of a meteor. Say, the meteor is six miles wide and it travels at 100,000 km/h, it will bring global destruction and a blanket of dust that even the sun cant penetrate. If the meteorite is just 2 miles wide and is only traveling at 5,000 km/h, it will only make massive tsunamis and submerge low-lying cities like New York.

  5. They make for a romantic evening.  Also they make for a great newspaper story .  You know the lady who was sitting in her living room gets capped in the leg and lives.  WOW
