  2. Very little. Most meteorites land in the oceans. Only about 4 per year are recovered on lands. Although it is a very rare occasion that a meteorite can do damage to a building or automobile, only one person has been documented to have actually been struck by one and this person was not seriously injured. The meteorites themselves are harmless. They do not contain any spooky gasses or harmful radiation and contrary to sci-fi movies, they are cool in temperature when they land and do not start any fires.

    Most meteoroids are dust sized particles. Thousands enter Earth's atmosphere every day. These burn up upon entering Earth's atmosphere. The real danger of meteoroids exists in space where collisions with spacecraft and probes and telescopes can cause damage that sometimes needs to be repaired.
