What are the effects of salinity on plants?

why does salinity in soil occur, why is it an issue on our earth, and what effects does this generally have on the plant itself?

  1. soil close to marine environments, acid and fertilisers will be slightly saline. some plants are halophytes and can tolerate the environment having alot of salts but others will not survive.

    halophytes survive because their osmotic pressure decreases with the environment alowwing it to take in water by osmosis.

    the presence of special salt glands are also important.
