What are the effects of taking 3 500mg Vicodin pills?

Some of my friends have decided they want to try abusing Vicodin. I was wondering what are the effects of taking three 500 mg pills and how long these effects will last.

I took Vicodin for a legitimate, prescribed reason (removal of four impacted wisdom teeth) and I can't understand why anyone would want to abuse it to get high. It pretty much just makes you feel fuzzy and dizzy and makes your head feel big...I'm pretty sure getting drunk would be less illegal (I doubt they're over 21, but a narcotic record would probably land you in a worse spot than a 'minor in possession of alcohol') and have the same or even more powerful effect. Stay good and hydrated and eat a few bananas and you might not even suffer a hangover. The individual who answered with the detailed description of Vicodin's effects and resultant resistance is spot on correct.

The son of my friend took somewhere (estimated) between 3 and 5 Vicodin pills and almost died.  He is brain damaged and a partial quadripilegic.  He has limited mobility in his arms and hands.  

He will be this way the rest of his life.

Vicodin is the/a name-brand for hydrocodone/APAP.  The 500mg refers to the amount of APAP, which is acetametophen, or Tylenol. Did your friends know that one of the leading causes of hospital ODs are of Tylenol?  True.

Now, WHY they're abusing it- is to get high.  Basically, hydrocodone is a pain reliever and a narcotic at that. It's highly illegal to take unless prescribed and taken as directed.  Abuse of hydrocodone HCL and oxycodone and the rest is what is making it much more difficult for those who NEED these meds to take them because ofthe DEA's operations and the illegal distribution. If your friends are ever arrested OR go to the ER and UA'd (drug tested), they will have a permanent RED FLAG and when they ARE in ACTUAL pain, the doctor will be UNABLE (legally) to prescribe anyhting stronger that non-narcotic  Ultram, which is non-habit forming....so....

Your friends may OD on the hydrocodone the first time; if they have difficulty breathing, they are gonna need an ambulance.

They will also build up a QUICK tolerance to it and need to take more, like 4 pills and more, to obtain the same "buzz" or high.  By the time they take the amount of say, 6-8 pills in a day, they will DEFINITELY have liver failure due to the liver trying to get the APAP/Tylenol diffused, and this is irreversible.  This will be the equivalant to 4mg of Tylenol, a dangerous situation.  Yes, Tylenol is dangerous if abused- many people intentionally OD for suicidal purposes per year.

The duration of their high will begin at about 2-6 hours, and by the time they have built up even the smallest amount of tolerance, they'll be "high" for a mere 45 to 90 minutes.

It's a downward spiral.

Seriously people WTF if your that h**l bent on getting "Hi"  Smoke Marijuana.  takes 15,000 pounds smoked in less than 15 minuets to overdose or a quarter million marijuana brownies.  Been smoking a gram a day for past year and recently sloped because anxiety got better absolutely no withdraws.  If it cain't kill you and if your smart about it wont addict you.  Ive never taken a vicodin but im sure a joint will do about the same thing without the risks.  O also so says Harvard over 400,000 die and get addicted by alcohol yearly.  0 die from marijuana.  Don't be stupid and take vicodin.
