When a student arrives late for class it's disruptive for the students and the teacher. An occasional tardiness is understandable, but if a student is habitually late for class it shows a general disrespect for the others.  Punctuality is an important habit to get into because it is a requirement of any job the student may get in the future.  Punctuality also is an indication of dependability and reliability.
