1)Can someone list out the essentials please?

2)Whats the best conservative yet practical swimwear idea... tankini or one-piece or any other better ones? Would love an idea that covers my legs if possible.

Thanks!

  1. You don't really need to know anything before taking lessons. That's why you're going to lessons. You will need to bring a suit, towel, cap (if your hair is longer than your ears), and goggles. If you want to shower at the pool, bring along shampoo and conditioner too. Most importantly, bring a good attitude. Be willing to listen to the instructor and try things, even if you think it's impossible to do them.

As for swimwear, a one piece competitive style suit is really the way to go. A good place to get one is from swimoutlet.com, discountswim.com, or swim2000.com. Stick with a brand like Speedo, TYR, or Dolfin. These are the most reliable when it comes to swimsuits.

As far as covering your legs, I know there are some suits made to do that just for recreational swimming, but they're not really practical. One solution I've seen some women come to is buying a technical suit (http://www.swimoutlet.com/Womens_Technic...

and wearing one of those. The downside is, they're very expensive and if you're just learning to swim people might think you're silly for wearing such a top quality racing suit.

  2. It depends on what age you are.

If you are older than 9 or 10, you should know how to do a basic version of all strokes:

    Butterfly

    Backstroke

    Breaststroke

    Freestyle

You should be able to swim at least 25 meters without stopping.

While it does not matter what age you are for lessons, it would be good to learn these things before lessons.

You do not have to be great at them, don't even have to be good. Just need to have a general idea.

    As for swim wear...SPEEDO

Look at the Speedo website, they make the best swim wear there is. If you cannot or do not want a Speedo, wear the tightest one-piece bathing suit you have.

    Good luck!
