  1. Furniture: bedroom furniture, small dining room table (a drop leaf would be good cause with the leaves down it would sit 2, but with the leaves up it seats 4), a loveseat that can fold out into a twin bed in case you have company, a couch, and a comfy chair (depending on how much space you have), pots and pans, cooking utensils and eating utensils, toaster, toaster oven or microwave, sheets, towels, internet, cable, a tv dvd, vcr. I would get a cheap desktop and set it up somewhere and then get a router so if you have a laptop you could connect wirelessly from anywhere in your apt, but just make sure you set it up so no one else can hack into your network. Check to see if your apt comes with a washer and dryer, a community laundry room, or if you have to bring your own. Bring cleaning supplies so you can clean your apt before you completely move in and so you can clean while you live there. I'm pretty sure your parents are letting you get your own apt that you can figure out the basics like lamps, lightbulbs, games so you don't get bored, cds, blankets, nightlight, hangers, wastebaskets. I would definantly suggest getting a etagere for your bathroom. I just got one and it REALLY cleaned up mine. Bring lots of pictures of friends and family and tack them to the wall (if you're allowed) so then when no one can come over you won't be alone. Good luck on your new place.

Ohhh! one last thing. get RENTER'S INSURANCE!!! Some people say its a waste of money, but its usually about $100 a year or less. We had a terrible apartment fire here and I know a few people who lost everything.

  2. Get a futon (this way you can use it like a sofa and a bed when someone stays over.)  A microwave is a must.  IKEA has the best bedroom furniture and cheap.  A HP TV would be great and a blue ray DVD player.  An Apple computer and printer with hook up to the Internet.

  3. umm well it depends. is there a fitted kitchen? if not...get the obvious, a microwave, althought optional, will be infinatly usefull!

then stuff like plates, glasses, mugs, cutlary can be 'borrowed' from parents who usually build up extras over the years...

    cookware, pots/pans.

you'll probably have to buy living room furnature...a tv(unless you can bring one from your room at home) sofa or two...(get big bean bags if your on a budget) a good, big desk is essential, a bed.

umm, you may need some lamps, end tables, a dining table(a small one) somewhere, umm...

then theres the less obvious...will you need curtins, light fittings/shades, bedclothes, chairs for the desk/dining table.

chest of drawers/shelves. clock for the wall,

stuff like extention cords, alarm clocks, hairdryers, irons, are handy to think of in advance although you can live without them once you get there....

also if you, like myself. are a poor cook, i'd recomend a george forman grill...

  4. deffinately get extra lights. having not enough lights sucks, and for an extended period of time (ie a year at college) it can cause deppression

  5. Check out DormCraze.com. They have a lot of cool items to decorate your dorm room or college apartment.

  6. A computer and printer is a must for college.

Also, make sure to get a futon, lamps, chair, microwave, and plenty of storage. =)

    Hope i helped

  7. Well, you can either get a couch/chair or a futon - depending on your preference.

You'll only need a few plates & bowls, a few spoons/forks/knives, some larger spoons/knives/spatulas, at least one "cake" pan, a pot, a skillet and a toaster. A microwave is optional, but very convenient.

small dining room table, 2/3 chairs, t.v., dvd player (stereo optional) & probably a computer.

You'll need a camera of some sort to take pictures of each room and any damage so when you move out later it won't be an issue of "you did this, no I didn't" type thing.

Those are pretty much the basics - well, besides a bed, dresser and alarm clock. :)

  8. TV, TV stand.  Couch.  Storage ottoman.  1 end table.  Table lamp.

Bed.  Bedside table.  Table lamp.  Alarm clock.  Pillows, 1 set sheets.  1 set towels.  Bath mat.  Clothes hamper, soap, fabric softner sheets.  Toilet brush.  Cleaning supplies.

Dishes.  Glasses.  Utensils.  2 kitchen towels, 2 pot holders.  1 large pasta pot, 2 small sauce pans, 1 large sauce pan, 1 fry pan, 1 9x11 cake pan, 1 cookie sheet.  Collander.  2 mixing bowl.  1 cooling rack.  Spatula, slotted spoon, 2 small knives, 1 large serrated knife, measuring cups and spoons, tongs, water pitcher, plastic storage containers, plastic baggies, foil, saran wrap. Cleaning supplies, dishwasher soap.
