  1. the flankers are the extras but in union the forwards all have their own niches generally. because in league scrum is largely uncontested the forwards are generally there to tackle and crash in the early phases. in union props tend to scrum ruck maul hit hard crash and lift in line outs. hookers hook and throw in line outs. locks (second rows) ruck maul provide the push in the scrum and jump in line outs 6&7 tend to be fastest of the forwards and are supposed to be where the ball is to maintain possession or steel the ball and make a lot of tackles also jump. eight is kind of a hybrid has to be mobile like a back but have the power of a second row also jumps for some teams, can be used as a real battering ram.

edit though players have niches they are not limited to these things a prop can pass the ball from the back of a ruck of take a drop goal and a wing can get in a ruck when needed

  2. Two flankers are the "extras" in rugby union:

    6 - blindside flanker

    7 - openside flanker

The 3 answers above me are wrong, sorry guys!!

Backs in league are numbered 1 to 7:

    1 - Fullback

    2 - Winger

    3 - Centre

    4 - Centre

    5 - Winger

    6 - Five eighth

    7 - Halfback

Forwards in League are numbered 8 to 13:

    8 - Prop

    9 - Hooker

    10 - Prop

    11 - Second row

    12 - Second row

    13 - Lock

Backs in Union are numbered 9 to 15:

    9 - Halfback

10 - Flyhalf (or standoff or 1st five)

    11 - Winger

12 - Inside centre (or second five)

    13 - Outside centre

    14 - Winger

    15 - Fullback

Forwards in union are numbered 1 to 8:

    1 - Loosehead prop

    2 - Hooker

    3 - Tighthead prop

4 - Lock (or second row)

5 - Lock (or second row)

    6 - Blindside flanker

    7 - Openside flanker

    8 - Number eight

Please folks, if you don't KNOW an answer, refrain from posting a load of cr@p.....

  3. To Wayne above, in the UK

    6-stand off

    7-scrum half

together they are collectively know as the half backs

    13-loose forward.

  4. Reserve& Goal keeper

  5. Flankers are missing, they're the guys that get to the ball first, to try to keep/steal the ball from the opposition. They're not needed in RL because in League you get tackled and then you stand up and play the ball whereas in union once the player with the ball is tackled to the ground he must release the ball and it then becomes fair game, hence the need for flankers lol hope that helps!

  6. There are no flankers in RL

    8 prop, 9 hooker, 10 prop

    11 2nd row, 12 2nd row

    13 loose forward

1 - 7 is pretty similar just different names:

    1 full back, 2 wing, 3 centre, 4 centre, 5 wing, 6 stand off, 7 scrum half

  7. Well in Union there is:

    (Fords)

    1- Prop

    2-Hooker

    3-Prop

    4-Lock

    5-Lock

    6-Flanker

    7-Flanker

    8-Number Eight

    (Backs)

    9-Scrum Half

    10-Fly Half

    11-Winger

    12-Inside Centre

    13-Outside Centre

    14-Winger

    15-Full back

    In league there are

    (Backs)

    1-Fullback

    2-Winger

    3-Centre

    4-Centre

    5-Winger

    6-Five Eighth

    7-Halfback

    (Fords)

    8-Prop

    9-Hooker

    10-Prop

    11-Second Row

    12-Second Row

    13-Lock/Flanker

So in league there is a Flanker and number eight missing
