  1. read rosencrantz and guildenstern are dead....good book with existentialistic themes

  2. Most basically, existentialism is the point of view that life has no inherent meaning.

Some existentialists (Kafka) take it to mean that there's NO meaning to life -- period!

Others (Camus, Sartre) take it to mean that each of us is responsible for CREATING meaning in life.  Sartre said "existence precedes essence," which means that existence comes first, and then each person defines him- or herself.  There's no predetermined meaning of being alive.

It's copyrighted, but the 5 points are listed under "Existentialism" in this glossary from a course in the University of Wisconsin:

  3. the mere basis that you are living is existentialism.

    To exist

    youv'e been existing...that's all I got

  4. I have survived death and I am here!

  5. Existentialism is a philosophy that emphasises our self determinism as a definition of our existence. That our freedom to act and think defines us, and that the search for truth lies in removing the constraints of our conditioning, acculturation and other subjective factors that hinder our search for our own truth.
