  1. I have seen good results and bad results.  It depends on the Doctor and which procedure he uses.

  2. There are many different kinds of surgery available for FTMs, and many different choices one can make along the way. So full results can really vary! If you are in the process of deciding what surgeries and surgeons to choose, i suggest joining the FTMSurgeryInfo yahoogroup. From there you can also find links to other forums and sites with information about FTM surgeries.

Edit to add: i'm also not aware of any evidence that male pattern baldness (androgenetic alopecia) is triggered by excessive testosterone. However, studies indicate that male pattern baldness is partially X-linked. Since FTMs usually have two X chromosomes that would give twice as much chance to become bald once androgens (ie testosterone) entered the mix.

  3. All the FTMs I know have had great results on the top surgery. However none have felt that bottom surgery was worth bothering with.

One did get it too early and had some breast regrowth afterwards and needed a second surgery.

In an FTM, hormones do most of the work. Just watch out the dosage as the one I know that is 27, is starting to show some male pattern baldness. And the one I know who is in his late 40s is completely bald on top.

Male pattern baldness is caused by too much testosterone.
