  1. While there are many different types of auditors, the general role that they play is that of an inspector - to use a simple term. An auditor comes into a company and looks at all aspects of its operations from its inventory, to its accounting practices, to receipts etc to make sure that the number that they report in their accounting department are correct. We have internal auditors that make sure that everyone is doing everything right. Then, there are external auditors that do the same thing. IRS auditors make sure you aren't lying on your taxes. Inventory auditors count each and every item to make sure it is what it says it is.
