  1. Lymph is the fluid that is formed as the interstitial fluid enters the lymph vessels by filtration. The lymph then travels to at least one lymph node before emptying ultimately into the right or the left subclavian vein, where it mixes back with blood.

Don't confuse the fluid (lymph) with the lymphatic tissues (ie lymph nodes) that fight off bacteria and infection.  Also, lymph doesn't just carry fluid to lymphatic tissues for "cleaning".  It also carried fat droplets that cannot be digested and diffused into the bloodstream.  So the lymph takes them and joins them with the blood in one of the subclavian veins just before it enters the heart.

  2. To carry germs and bacteria to places where they can be destroyed.
