Just out of curiosity. Which one is more dangerous to drive and be a crew member of? Although I heard that all soldiers serving in Iraq will eventually spend time in a Humvee at one point or another.

  1. Armor and firepower!

  2. Simple:

Tank = Heavily armored mobile cannon

Humvee = Next generation of Jeep;  lightly armored if at all,

       light machine gun if any

  3. A Humvee is much more dangerous.

A Humvee is light armor to stop small arms fire. and its only defense is a 50. cal or a grenade launcher.

A Tank is Heavy armor to stop RPGs and other tank guns. And a tank can have a giant gun plus a 50 cal. or grenade launcher

  4. an abrams is by far more dangerous, not from the enemy but the tank itself doesnt care who it kills. if you get complacent youll get killed.

  5. Tanks offer far better protection than Humvees but are ill suited to patroling highways or narrow city streets are most of the missions in Iraq involved.

The Humvee is basically a cargo truck that has had weapons and armor added to it.  The result is that they have a vehicle which is trying to do a lot more than it was originally designed for.  (ie.  Carry 4 troops and about 1/2 ton of equipment.)

What the Army REALLY needs is Armored Cars which are used by many Armys in the world today.  Yes, the Army has a few but they are being produced too slowly to replace all the Humvees doing combat missions in Iraq.

Sadly, we won't figure out how to fight this war until it is time for us to go.  Fortunately, only 5 troops were killed in Iraq in July - an all time record low.  We seem to be doing something right - about 4 years too late.

  6. the tank is safer, has twice the iron strength, if not more, and some company over here is making the money off of these humvees,  the american ego in a hummer, brains optional.  Who can be safer then the other person, money is the safe alternative, as we see today that even money is not safety or a solid option, and greed as we see today is a equal  opportunity employer.

  7. tank = life  , humvee = death ,  that's in case of a serious combat situation.....

  8. Mainly survive ability.  You're more likely to survive in a tank than a Humvee.  Also - armor generally isn't sent in to do street fighting because of its size & being a more valued resource.  Both have a purpose but I will always side with "Heavy Metal."  Armored Recon RULES!

  9. A tank has a large gun, is well armored and is generally slow.  Crew members are generally pretty safe in a tank.

A standard humvee has paper-thin sheet metal fenders and doors, some are equipped with a machine gun, and is faster than a tank.  Crew members are generally unprotected in a hummer and suffer lots of casaulties.

A hummer is a standard "jeep" type military vehicle that almost every soldier gets a ride in.
