  1. They are the same fundamental factors that lead scientists to accept every scientific theory, such as atomic theory, quantum theory, Einstein's relativity, plate tectonics, germ theory, number theory, etc

  2. Because both theories seem logical and scientists tend to follow the head [ logic ] over the heart [ emotions ]. Neither is, however, absolutely 'provable', so they remain popular until a newer one comes along ! Remember 'scientists' have been proven to be wrong many times in the past.
