  1. If you are in neutral... 1 click down will be 1st.. put your toe under the shift and 1 click up will be second.. another click up will be 3rd.. another click up will be 4th.. and so on...When you have the bike in 1st a half click up will be neutral..

If you are say in 5th gear want to go to 4th...1 click down will be 4th.. another click down 3rd...and so on...once your back in 1st.. half click up will be neutral.

Most bikes are 1 down and 5 up.... 6 speed

Some could be 1 down 4 up......5 speed

    Have fun shifting :)

  2. You cant award 20 points, also, if you dont even know how to change gear, why are you RACING motorcycles ?

You must be racing , yes ? To have asked this question in THIS section.

  3. the gears go like this

    6(depends)

    5

    4

    3

    2

    N

    1

to get to 1st if your in N hold the clucth push down on the shifter in the left side slowley releaes the clucth give it gas to go to 2 ect hold the clucth shift up this time a repate the clucth part to stop pull in the clucth push down and hold the clucth until you go again. you confused me with your qustin so i just told you what i know

  4. it sounds like you have shift mechanism failure or it is a very lo quality machine. ive seen many generic bikes that are very difficult shifting and some that the gear patterns seldom work.

if your tranny and shift parts are in good working design and condition it should shift very smooth and cleanly click into each gear without going soft on it or jabing it hard. most patterns are 1 down and the rest up neutral being just between 1st & second gear so you wont hit neutral going into a corner. sounds like your shift star or shift cam arm may be warn or dammaged.  look into "constant mesh transmissions" for better understanding of how they work.

  5. all the way down is 1st. neutral is a light upshift between 1st and 2nd. every transmission is different of course but if you upshift very lightly you'll go into neutral. a regular upshift will take you to 2nd. i've never "jumped a gear" as you say. i think you'd really have to try hard to do that. and you could probably only do it if the transmission was already worn out.

motorcycle transmission are sequential. so you have to go through all the gears. you can't go from 1st to 5th or vice versa like with a car transmission. you have to 1-2-3-4-5 or 5-4-3-2-1.
