The good side of adoption is that it matches up children who desperately need families with families which desperately need children.  What could be better than that?

The bad side of adoption is the same as the bad side of having biological children.  As they say in "The Fantastiks," plant a radish, get a radish.  Plant a child, nobody can ever count on what you're gonna get.  :-)

Hmmm, can't think of any good parts for me.  I lost everything and gained nothing except dysfunctional, lower-middle class adopters, the pain of not knowing my history, and pretending that it didn't matter.

The adoption industry is corrupt, and preys on pregnant women like vultures.

One of the bads: If you're one of the 100,000+ children in foster care without any family, and you don't get adopted because everyone wants an infant instead, and you "age out" when you turn 18 without any resources or support.
