  1. I agree with the first answer...If you plan to sell your house in 10-20 years don't get all carpet in your house...Cause as a kid I have had my fair share of issues with an all carpet house(except kitchen and bathroom)....And my parents are tryign to sell the house and we had to spend about 2,000$ replacing it all......

  2. carpet, comfortable barefoot, cosy, but hard to clean.

wood/laminate, looks classy, easy to clean, but very slippery and not so comfortable barefoot!

  3. I have 3 rooms carpeted, 1 laminate, the rest wood (and tile in bathroom naturally)

Carpet, fabulous for not showing all the bits of debris, dust etc that comes into the house, I know that now because the wooden floors always look messy, dusty and need sweeping and mopping A LOT.  However, have pulled up the carpet in one room cause it was very old and icky and the style/pattern very outdated. Floorboards don't date really, but they are noisier, believe it or not even from outside noise (not just heavy footsteps), we live on a very busy road and traffic noise is more noticable in wooden floored rooms. Also hard to sit or kneel on wood for very long, and it is colder than carpet of course. Can show marks - lounge chair of mine left scratches on lounge wood floor that will need to be sanded and repolished

Laminate, is like the halfway between, it has insulating properties so is softer and provides some noise absorption, easy to clean and as you can choose the pattern it can hide dust etc depending on pattern choice.
