  1. it's a fantastic experience!!

  2. This is not specific to Val d'Isère but valid for all popular skiing resorts in France:

( + ) Very good for the local and national economy (France has the largest ski slope network in the world so it brings a lot of money) with tourists spending on ski passes, ski rentals, accomodation, going out to restaurants, shopping local, booking train/taxis, etc. As a result most locals can live off tourism and don't have to relocate to find jobs in services. It creates a lot of jobs in construction and maintenance also for the infrastructures to be operational.

( - ) Bad for the environment, especially because of transportation to the resorts and cutting off trees.

( - / + ) Real estate prices are very high in skiing resorts as a result of tourism making them very attractive and people buying second homes there. It's an asset for families that have owned property there for generations but can be tough for local first-time buyers (especially since cost of living/food is already high in high Alpine resorts because goods need to be brought up by trucks).
