What are the good parts of Boston, Massachusetts?

I would like to know where the good and bad areas to have an apartment in are. I am just out of college. Any suggestions?

Brookline, Belmont, Newton are all outstanding but pricey.

You don't want to move to Dorchester, Roslindale, or Hyde Park.  All of the above are in the news almost nightly for shootings.
