N a casual conversation my BF n I were talkin about my/our wedding. I stated that I wanted praise dancers. Then he reminded me that his family is Church of Christ. Yea I completely 4got. I decided if he is indeed the 1 I will marry, that I would still have my praise dancers but try n incorporate some of their traditions. Problem: I don't know any.

  1. The Church of Christ is EXTREMELY conservative. Now I know this doesn't go for all Church of Christ folks but they are usually pretty intolerant of any other religion or traditions. If you have to have a traditional Church of Christ wedding you probably won't get your praise dancers, you must have a preacher of the Church of Christ marry you, there are no instruments in the church (except for your wedding march song), the reception will probably be cake and punch at the church.. etc. I hope this isn't the case though.

  2. I'm GUESSING that Church of Christ is Christian?  Just the unity candle comes to mind.  :)

The unity candle ceremony uses two taper candles with a large pillar candle (called the "unity candle") in the center. At the beginning of the wedding ceremony, a representative from each family (usually the mothers of the bride and groom) light the two taper candles. Later in the ceremony (usually after the formal vows), the bride and groom use the two taper candles to light the large pillar (unity) candle together to symbolize their lives as one.

    What's a praise dancer?

  3. ask him, he'll know the best. and if you 2 do get married the priest will tell you everything you need to know.

  4. OK this is the issue, there are non denominational Church of Christs all over the country.  They are each independently run by their own pastor.  So their traditions and customs will vary from church to church.  So there is no definite answer.  What you should do is attend church with your boyfriend or once engaged begin attending church with him.  Then you can see their traditions for yourself.  At that time you can also talk with one of the Deacons or the pastor to find out more about their wedding traditions.

Bottom line is there is no answer you will just have to ask that specific church.

  5. Honestly your going to have to talk to the minister that is performing the ceremony.

I used to video tape weddings all the time and sometimes the church had a policy and the minister would say "well... its the policy but as long as your not interrupting the ceremony I can live with this....."

so asking yahoo q an a will give you a broad range of answers but they may or may not be correct in your case.

  6. Perhaps you should visit the church of Christ.

Below are some articles that tell about the church, including one called "What to Expect When You Visit the Church of Christ".

If you know something about the religion of your possible future in-laws, then you will be able to understand their point of view better.  Even if you don't agree with them, a little understanding may help you fit in with the family in the future.

  7. Which Church of Christ?

    UCC...United Church of Christ

Church of Christ Latter Day Saints?

    Big, Big difference.
