  1. In some places in Canada the hospitals experience a lot of wait time to be seen. There is also a lack of medical staff, which increases the wait. There are also not enough family Dr's, but we don't have to pay for our health care in general which is a GREAT thing in my opinion. I would rather wait a bit for tests, then have to pay for everything, or have to wait indefinately because I can not afford it.

  2. The issue is wait times.  There are no other problems.  It would appear the US system is hopelessly broken, as seen on PBS Tuesday night.

  3. nothing really it is free and the wait times aren't that long maybe an hour from where i am but if it is really serious they will admit you right away

  4. Sasquatches the size of a small RV

  5. If you mean health care issues. The main answer is the overburdened Health Care caused by the unscreened adoption of universal healthcare. In spite of all the horror stories about wait times and lack of access, most of the claims are unfounded.Three years ago I was having a medical distress and I don't have a family doctor. I went to a walk in clinic stated my symptoms and saw a doctor within an hour. His first assessment required me to see a specialist whom I saw two hours later. This required a further medical procedure which was scheduled the following week. Shortened story six weeks later I had cancer surgery with follow up, Chemotherapy and Radiation treatnents. I still have regular check ups and am presently cancer free.An aberation, I think not. Eight weeks ago I took a stroke. I was taken to a local hospital where I was given first rate treatment including a Cat Scan and Clot Buster medication was administered. Because my vitals were fine I was discharged to my home and am now recovering in excellant shape. The reason for these two emergencies is that I was unable to have routine medical examinations. The Health Care system in Canada is crisis care and we are good at it. What it needs is better management of administration of health policies. All the ads identifying the need to watch your blood pressure and colon care don't mean anything if our medical waiting rooms are full of kids with runny noses and obese parents looking for a quick prescription. My city of 45,000 people has a record of 18,000 with no family doctor. That's 20% of the population paying for hospital care and not receiving it. That is my rant for the day.

    Edit to above,

If on the other hand what are the Health Issues in Canada is about what do we suffer from health wise/

It's too cold in the winter causing slips and falls on the ice and colds and flu. It is too hot in the summer causing sunburn and heat stroke. The mosquitos are too big and numerous causing the unknown West Nile Fever amongst some of our crows. An occasional visitor to Canada brings an unknown disease such as SARS which puts our system to the test. But normally we're just fat and smug puckheads with a wonderful life.

  6. The major one is that the system is hopelessly broken: you can't get medical care there -- you have to come to the States.

  7. Wait times can be an issue but the government is trying to cut them.  You can wait 3-4 months or longer to have certain tests done or to see a specialist.  However, if you are in desperate need, you will be moved up and seen before someone who is not.

We do not have enough doctors.  Because of this, many people don't have a family physician and must rely on the hospitals and clinics for their medical care.

  8. Health care in Canada is quite good, in terms of cost and quality of service. We have good doctors here, and plenty of specialists. Everyone can afford to go to the doctor and they are covered under provincial or federal health plans so they do not need to worry about mortgaging their house if they get sick or need an operation.

Where we have problems is with long delays in getting to see a doctor, and having regular checkups and a family doctor we can go to due to a shortage of doctors in Canada.

Doctors (and nurses too) often find that they can earn more money by going south of the border (down to the USA) and go into practice at a private clinic rather than in Canada's public health system.

The costs of medications and prescription drugs can be an issue here if you do not have a private insurance plan, but even that is partially covered by the government and won't break your budget in most cases.

  9. How about a detailed question.
