  1. Early measurement systems were based on the human body, grains of wheat, the amount of time it took water to drain from a vessel.  Then the metric system came along.  MKS.  Meter, Kilogram, Second.  All other units can be derived from these units.  All the measurements are decimal system based (divisible by 10) One additional unit is temperature.  In the metric system 0 is the temperature that water freezes, 100 is the temperature that it boils.  Train yourself to think in metric.  The U.S. is the last country in the world that uses the English system (imperial).  Even England uses the metric system.
