  2. There are holes in the handle to make the knife lighter. These holes can also have a nice pattern to them and make the knife look cool.     Not only is it a stylized design that has been their standard, but I would also guess it has to do with the balancing of the handles.  By shaving out the weight with holes, it surely gives them the ability to flip around easier.
