  1. If you're going to seek work you'll need a work permit approved before travel. If you're going to live only take a normal trip, go to the nearest Guarde station upon arrival and apply for a resident tourist visa. Must be renewed every year. After five years resident you can apply for citizenship. You will be required to show enough income and pay for a health plan before a visa will be granted. You must not be a burden to the state if approved for a visa.

    You best have at least three thousand dollars a month of income because is the most expensive country in the EU now. The exchange rate is unreliable. Cost of living is out of control. The place is not the romantic "Quiet Man" anymore.
