  1. Ive heard it argued a few times that it has the potential to be something of a liberationial device as far as women go in society. Anything that can contribute to great control over reproduction is going to be a benefit to women and by extension to society as well. Individuals when using condoms properly reduce health risks and also gain greater control over their sexuality, which probably in many ways allows for greater variation in sexual practices.

Families probably start later in many instances when birth control methods such as condoms are implemented in society. Likewise the size of the family will likely be smaller or at least will be dictated by the parents as they have greater control if they choose to exercise it. Also you create another element of teaching from parent to child about sexual education should parents choose to do so -which many regrettably dont or dont do well.

On a societal level you allow for sexuality and s*x to be much more openly discussed and advertised because s*x can be pursued more openly when the risks have at least the potential to be reduced. And i think you do work a bit towards gender equality as both men and women have the chance to be sexual beings with less of a responsibility to reproduction should they choose to avoid it for a time.

  2. A condom serves only two purposes I can think of....(1) to prevent pregnancy, (2) to prevent the spread of sexually transmitted deseases.
