  1. Turks have been one of the main immigrants into Germany since the 60's. There is a lot of connection between the two countries. Most Turks are hard working people.

  2. Some of my friends are Turks (descendants of immigrants), and Germany offers them citizenship. So there's no problem about that. But, as by German law, you cannot have double citizenship, so you have to take a decision: German, or Turk?

It's a different situation as to me, because if I had a reason to stay long enough in the U.S., as a European citizen, I could apply for American citizenship, maybe get it, and have both passports. But for the Turks in Germany, once they give away their Turkish passport and get a European one, it's once and forever. So many young people hesitate to do that.

I don't really know any Turkish immigrant that hasn't grown up here, and I like the ones I know. They're all living their lives here, according to their religion, more or less. There is nothing that politics could do. It's the people who will do it and encourage their friends to stay. That's what I always told my female Turkish colleagues from my former company, who were students then: Stay. You won't regret it. If you're wearing a headscarf or not, this is a free country. You are allowed to do it.

The problem most immigrants have is that they can't move back. And it's worse in the 2nd or 3rd generation. There's no other choice than to stay in the country that your parents or grand parents once had moved to. Except, you learn languages, and find a third one.

I couldn't even tell for myself what my mother country is. My great-grand-something were born in the East of Europe, and, h**l, I'm not into genealogy. I just DON'T KNOW! -- And maybe that's how many people feel. So why not forget about all that fuss, and reboot from start, just like the USA once did? Why not?

    It all started with,

    WE, the PEOPLE.
